IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL ELEMENTARY FAMILIES!

Please be aware that there will be no crossing guard program in place at the start of the school year on September 1 and likely for all of the school year.  If you have students who walk, or bicycle to school, please talk to them about safe practices for crossing streets and intersections before the school year begins.   Since the vast majority of crossing guards in place last year were at signalized intersections, we encourage students to use the crosswalks and traffic signals to cross safely at those locations.

Many years ago when funding of schools was better, the District agreed to participate in a cooperative arrangement with the City of Brea to support crossing guards.  With the projected total deficit of the funding due to the District from the State reaching 24%, the District has been faced with tough decisions to maintain a balanced budget.  As part of the many budget reductions implemented by the Board of Education for the 2010-11 school year and beyond, District funding for crossing guards was eliminated.  Unfortunately, due to the economic realities facing the City of Brea as well, the City finds itself unable to fully cover the $46,000 annual cost of this program.

Please note that the District has no legal authority or jurisdiction to direct traffic in public streets or highways, so District staff will be unable to assist in monitoring student safety or control student travel across local streets and highways as students return to school next week. 

Congratulations!  We are extremely pleased to announce that BOHS Biology Teacher,  Amy Welch, has been named an Orange County Teacher of the Year Finalist.  On Tuesday, May 11, Amy was visited by O.C. Superintendent Bill Habermehl and a contingent which included O.C. Register reporters, O.C. Teacher of the Year interviewers, her mom, and district and site administrators.  She will be recognized on November 30, 2010 at the annual county recognition event and will be the recipient of a $15,000 cash award.  Click on the link below to view some of the pictures posted in the O.C. Brea Olinda Home Education Program -- The Brea Olinda Unified School District is pleased to announce the opening of its Home Education Program beginning September 2010.  The Home Education~ Independent Study Program is designed to assist parents who wish to home school their children in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.  This program expands the educational choices and options available for your child.   In order to enroll in the Home Education Program, please contact Allison Granger at agranger@bousd.us 714-719-3131 or Heidi Burns at hburns@bousd.us  714-990-7556.  A short orientation followed by student enrollment will be held on Tuesday, August 17, at W.E.
