Disposition of Exisiting Olinda Elementary School Site


PUBLIC HEARING HELD 

On Monday, November 7, 2011, a Public Hearing was held at 7:30 PM in the Brea Civic and Cultural Center, Community Rooms A & B. The purpose of the Public Hearing was to give the community an opportunity to comment on the disposition of the existing Olinda Elementary School facility located at 109 Lilac Lane, Brea. Laurel Principal, Daryn Coburn, Moves to Mariposa Elementary


Mrs. Coburn has been the principal at Laurel Elementary School for the past 12 years, leading the school to earn Title I High

Kelly Kennedy Selected as New Brea Junior High Principal


Current BOUSD principal, Kelly Kennedy, has emerged as the Superintendent's recommendation to fill the position of principal at Brea Junior High School for the 2014-15 school year.  Mrs. Kennedy will be formally appointed by the Board of Education at the June 9th Board meeting.  Click HERE to view the press release.

Intent to Sell Surplus Property (Brea CorporatePlace)

At the December 9, 2013 Board meeting, the Board of Education adopted Resolution #13-46 declaring its intention to sell surplus real property commonly known as the Brea CorporatePlace site to private entities. The Board of Education established January 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room as the date the Board will open sealed bids to purchase the property. The Board has received a direct purchase offer from Hines to purchase the fee interests in Brea CorporatePlace for $25 million.  This offer will be re-considered at a Special Meeting of the Board on February 5, 2014 at 7:30 AM in the Large Conference Room of the District Office.  The agenda is attached HERE.

Preschool Connection 2014


ENROLLMENT FOR PRESCHOOL – BOUSD's Preschool Connection was created to provide an enriched environment for early-aged children, which benefits their intellectual, physical, emotional and social development.  Classes are designed for 3 and 4-year olds and are held Monday through Thursday from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Enrollment for Preschool will take place Thursday, March 6. For more information, please contact the Child Care Services Administrative Office at (714) 990-7527.  Click HERE for registration information.

ALERT -- Pertussis (Whooping Cough) is an epidemic in California.  Pertussis is a bacterial infection of the respiratory tract that is very contagious.  Due to this current epidemic, Assembly Bill 354 was signed on September 29, 2010.  This bill took affect July 1, 2011, and requires that all students entering 7th through 12th grade provide proof of immunization for Pertussis before starting the 2011-2012 school year.  This requirement can be met by receiving one dose of Tdap vaccine, the tetanus and Pertussis booster, on or after the student’s 7th birthday.  If your child has not received the Tdap vaccination, please call your doctor’s office or the Orange County Health Care Agency and make an appointment to have your child vaccinated.  Any questions please contact Alicia Bernard, RN, MSN, PHN, Brea Olinda District Nurse at 714-990-7850 ext 1231.

Fanning and Mariposa Named 2012 California Distinguished Schools


The District was notified on Thursday, March 29, by State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson, that Fanning and  Mariposa Elementary School were named 2012 California Distinguished Schools.  The program honors and identifies those schools that have demonstrated educational excellence for all students and progress in narrowing the achievement gap.  To be invited to apply for Distinguished School honors, schools must meet a variety of eligibility criteria including designated federal and state accountability measures.  Congratulations!
