Dr. Chris Becerra was elected to the Board of Education in 2022. He lives in Brea with his four children, who all have attended Brea Olinda Unified School District schools since they were in preschool. Chris has over 20 years of experience as a practitioner and scholar in education, and is an active volunteer for the BOUSD community.  He has served as a board member on the Brea Educational Foundation as well as a board member for the Laurel Elementary Magnet School PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization).

 

Chris worked for the Brea Olinda Unified School District from 2010-2018 as the Administrative Director of Child Development Services. In this role, he developed and implemented a complete turnaround of the program which resulted in increasing enrollment from 250 to serving over 900 children each day.  Chris states that his greatest accomplishment was adding a preschool and transitional kindergarten classroom to every elementary school throughout the school district. After leaving BOUSD, he was the county-wide Director of Early Learning and Expanded Learning for the Orange County Department of Education for two years.  He currently owns his own educational consulting agency, as well as works in higher education as an administrator and professor of child development.

 

Chris holds a Doctorate Degree (Ed.D.) in Early Childhood Education, a Master's Degree (M.Ed) in Educational Leadership and Administration, and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology.  He is a certified school business manager through CASBO (California Association of School Business Officials) and is a certified personnel administrator through ACSA (Association of California School Administrators).  Chris holds a teaching credential and an administrative credential, and holds a graduate certificate in Leading with Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, as well as a graduate certificate in LGBTQ+ Inclusion for Educators.
