Ready, Set, Go! Brea Olinda Elementary Schools Prepare for Annual BEST Meet April 20

April 12, 2024

Third time’s a charm for Brea Olinda Unified School District’s annual Brea Elementary Schools Track (B.E.S.T.) Meet, which tests athleticism and promotes sportsmanship among 4th through 6th grade students. The BEST meet had been rescheduled twice due to inclement weather and is now scheduled to take place Saturday, April 20 at 9 a.m. - Noon at the Brea Olinda High School track.

The B.E.S.T. Meet is now in it’s 43rd year and dates back to 1980 when Mr. Leonard MacKain, or “Mac” as he is best known, organized Brea’s first track meet for Fanning Elementary School, renamed Falcon Academy of Science and Technology in 2020. MacKain wanted students to have an opportunity to participate in track and field events, just like the ones held at the Olympics, and as time went on, all the elementary schools joined the event and created the program that exists today.

“Our B.E.S.T. Meet is one of the most anticipated events of the year for our elementary schools,” said BEST Meet Chair and Mariposa Principal Rick Torres. “It’s an opportunity to bring the community together for some fun and competition.”

The B.E.S.T. Meet includes all six elementary schools in Brea Olinda Unified and will feature various track events including 50 - 400 meter runs, a softball throw, running long jump, medicine ball push and a biathlon.

The schedule of events is as follows:
