Summer Programs Kick Start Early Learning, Skills Development, and Good Old Fashioned Fun

In most communities, the start of summer typically generates excitement as students and teachers prepare to take a well-deserved break from the classroom from June through August. However, at Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD), the summer months are filled with many opportunities for students to begin or continue developing early learning and foundational skills, recover academic credits, and/or explore new and exciting programs like robotics for the first time. It’s also a great time to enjoy some good old fashioned fun with summer camps.

This year, BOUSD in collaboration with its Child Development Services department is excited to offer Summer Day Camps that are sure to inspire learners both young and old.

Beginning with state preschool, which will be offered for Laurel and Arovista elementary students at Arovista Elementary this summer from June 3 to Aug. 12, and preschool Summer Camp to be offered at Olinda Elementary from June 3 to Aug. 2. Brea Olinda’s state preschool program offers a fee-based and state-funded program for children ages three to five years old and is designed to provide an enriched environment for early learners, benefitting their intellectual, physical, and social development.

Students in grades TK through eighth grade can also look forward to participating in fee-based summer camps available at Arovista Elementary, Olinda Elementary and the Brea Junior High Teen Center. Brea Olinda’s Summer Camps provide parents with a reliable source of child care, but also provide a fun way for students to enjoy the summer months with fun activities, field trips and peer-to-peer connections.

This year, the District will also once again offer elementary and junior high school students the opportunity to enroll in the very popular Summer Robotics Camp. The Robotics Camps are open to students in grades 5-8 and can help students explore robotics for the first time or expand critical skills in engineering and coding using VEX IQ and VEX V5 robotics equipment. Look for more information about Robotics Camps on the BOUSD website.

United Choirs of Brea Booster Club and Brea Olinda High School Show Choir  will also be hosting a Show Choir Summer Camp from June 10-14 for elementary students in grades 2nd - 6th and junior high and high school students.

Lastly, our high schoolers will have the opportunity to recover credits and improve grade point averages (GPA’s) with several summer school courses offered June 11 - July 26 at Brea Olinda High School. Credit recovery courses are only available to students who meet certain requirements and must be approved by a high school counselor.

Overall, it is expected to be a busy and productive summer at BOUSD!
