Dr. Kristin Risberg Appointed Principal of Brea Junior High School

The Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) Board of Education has appointed Dr. Kristin Risberg to serve as the new principal of Brea Junior High School. Risberg returns to BOUSD after a short time away serving as an area administrator in the Central Valley.
“Dr. Risberg brings a wealth of experience in curriculum and instruction and educational leadership, having served commendably as a teacher and in site and district leadership roles,” said Superintendent Brinda Leon. “She is passionate about fostering an inclusive and dynamic educational environment that not only meets but exceeds the needs of our students and community.”
As an accomplished educator whose career in Southern California has been marked by a variety of roles including elementary and middle school teacher, coordinator, instructional coach, assistant principal, principal and district coordinator of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Risberg had the opportunity to contribute her extensive knowledge and experience supervising seven schools while in the Central Valley. She was also credited with contributing to the growth of the College Career Indicator and advancing CTE opportunities for students. Now, she says she is very excited to be returning to her literal family and work family in BOUSD.
Risberg said she is embracing the words of Wendy Wunder who said “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.” She is grateful to the BOUSD team for welcoming her back. “Reuniting with the exceptional team at Brea Junior High feels like coming home. Together, we’ll ignite young minds, foster innovation, and shape tomorrow’s leaders - one student at a time.”
Risberg holds a master’s degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from California State University, Fullerton. She is a devoted mom, daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend, and her leisure time is often spent enjoying the outdoors with her loved ones - a true testament to her belief in the importance of work-life balance and the joy of nature.
Risberg will assume her role as the new principal of Brea Junior High effective July 1, 2024.
