School Climate and Social Emotional Learning Surveys
Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) remains committed to providing all students with a tailored learning experience that best suits individual needs. To get a snapshot of student experience in BOUSD, your child is being asked to share their insights via the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), sponsored by the California Department of Education (CDE) and the Panorama SEL survey. The information that our students and families share will play a critical role in our District's LCAP development and future planning.
For the 2022-2023 school year students in grades 5,7,9,11 and all Brea Canyon High School students will participate in the CHKS survey. Students in grades 3,4 and 6 will pilot the Panorama SEL survey.
Some key points:
-
Survey Content - The surveys gather information on social emotional learning competencies, developmental supports provided to youth; school connectedness and barriers to learning, as well as behaviors such as physical activity and nutritional habits; alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use; and school safety.
-
The results from the CHKS survey are compiled into district- and county-level CHKS Reports. To view a copy of your district’s report, go to https://calschls.org/reports-
data/search-lea-reports/ (Outside Source) and type in the district name. Results will become available once our Survey window closes. - The results from the Panorama SEL survey are compiled into student, school, and district level reports. To view your student's report following survey administration please contact your student's school counselor.
- Samples of the questionnaires are listed below. You can also review a copy at the District Office.
-
-
Survey participation is voluntary and requires parent permission.
-
Students who, with your permission, agree to participate do not have to answer any questions they do not want to answer, and may stop taking the survey at any time.
- Elementary students require active consent. Elementary consent forms will be distributed from your child's school ahead of the survey window.
- Secondary students utilize passive consent. Parents electing to exempt their student from the survey may contact their school's office and return the secondary parent consent form to the office.
-
CHKS participation is anonymous. No names are recorded or attached to the survey forms or data. Panorama survey results are compiled at the student, school, and district level. Both CHKS and Panorama will be administered electronically. Our survey window will open on April 10th, and close in late April.
