This page will serve as resource guide to families, schools and community members who may have questions or concerns regarding changes to federal immigration policies. The information on this page is a combination of information provided by the State of California Office of the Attorney General and the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE). Student & Family Rights and Protections

Schools Are Safe Spaces - Every child has the right to a free public education, regardless of immigration status. According to guidance from the California Attorney General, the law prohibits immigration agents to enter schools or demand information without one of the following:
  • an administrative warrant or a subpoena for production of documents or other evidence
  • a court-issued federal judicial warrant (search-and-seizure warrant or arrest warrant)
All Student/Family Information is Confidential - BOUSD does not collect or share information about students' or families' immigration status. Federal laws like FERPA, protect student and family privacy. BOUSD strictly follows the law.
