Gail Lyons was first elected to the Board of Education in 2008. Gail and her husband, Pat, have lived in the City of Brea for 22 years, and feel fortunate to have raised their five children in the wonderful city of Brea. The Lyons children all received their strong foundations for a life of learning while attending Fanning Elementary, Brea Junior High, and Brea Olinda High School.

Gail earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, Human Resources and Organizational Development, from California State University of Fullerton. Upon graduation she pursued her passion to support and serve people, as a Human Resources executive in the retail and service industries. Her responsibilities always center around organizational development, talent acquisition, employee training/career enhancement and employee relations.

Upon moving to Brea in 1996, Gail quickly became an active volunteer in the community and especially in Brea schools. Over the years Gail served in various capacities to support BOUSD students. She served on the PTA Executive Board as Treasurer, Auditor, Membership Chairman, GATE parent Advisor and Jog-a-thon Co-Chairperson/Treasurer. She has contributed time and energy as a Scout Leader, Booster parent for Band, Cross Country, ABC and GITA ( Global IT Academy) and received the Founder’s Day Volunteer Award for her volunteer efforts. Gail is also committed to our senior citizen community, walking alongside and advocating for those who lack support or necessary resources.

Gail is passionate about making a difference in the lives of all BOUSD students and is driven to support those who might lack support, encouragement or opportunity. Her efforts center around promoting high academic standards and relevant career training so each student can thrive and succeed. She firmly believes that education is the “difference maker” and that quality public education is crucial to our communities, country and our future.

Gail’s background and her long-held commitment to continuous improvement, drive her efforts to improve communication and engagement with all BOUSD stakeholders. She is consistently interested in validating what works best for our students and staff and will always strive to improve areas of opportunity by seeking out and implementing Best Practices to enhance our district's performance.

Gail is honored to serve as a BOUSD Board member and is committed to supporting the students, teachers, staff and families of Brea, especially those who need it most. Her passions will always be focused on quality education for all students while ensuring sound fiscal management. She believes sage investment in supporting our educators is key, enabling them to equip each of our students with learning experiences that provide a strong foothold to become global thinkers and leaders while living a life of generous, compassionate citizenship.
